The York Catholic District School Board is proud to share a beautiful story of faith, creativity and collaboration that reflects the very heart of Catholic education.
Students from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Newmarket recently completed a remarkable project in their technology class. They created a custom, handcrafted wooden cross that is now proudly on display at the Catholic Education Centre (CEC).
After being delivered to the CEC, this beautiful cross received a special blessing from His Excellency Bishop John Boissonneau, Auxiliary Bishop of the Northern Region of the Archdiocese of Toronto. It now stands as a permanent fixture in the board offices. It is a daily reminder of Christ’s love and sacrifice, and of the incredible gifts our students.
A huge thank you goes to Sacred Heart CHS Technology Studies teacher, Mr. Kowalchuk, and students Rory Bullock, Cailean Cameron, Daniel Sanchez Diaz, Izabella Flaszynski, Matteo Tomais, Amelia Van de Ven and Emerson Wilkinson for sharing their talents with the York Catholic community.
From the initial sketches to the final carving and finishing touches, these students poured their time, talent and hearts into creating the symbol that is at the centre of our faith.
This cross is more than a project, it is a testament to what is possible when faith, learning and creativity come together. May it continue to inspire all who see it for years to come.
