RECOMMENDATION:  In order to fully participate in AMU201, it is strongly recommended that in preparation, students take AMU101

We offer many options in Instrumental, Guitar and Keyboard...

AMU101 Grade 9 Instrumental Music
*develop technique, sensitivity and imagination
*participate in creative activities that will teach listening and understanding
*learn correct musical terminology and appropriate use
*band course-study instruments and be placed in a section

AMU201 Grade 10 Instrumental Music-recommended preparation
*emphasis on performance of music at an intermediate level
*participate in creative activities and listening perceptively
*develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history

AMU3M1 Grade 11 Instrumental Music-pre-requisite AMU101 or AMU201
*develop artistic knowledge and skills through the performance and preparation of music productions
*perform appropriate works in contemporary popular styles
*work independently, and in groups to plan, market, and produce music productions
*make use of appropriate technology and evaluate the results

AMU4M1 Grade 12 Instrumental Music-pre-requisite AMU3M1
*emphasis on the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period,
and the 20th century, including art music, jazz, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music
*concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently
*complete complex creative projects with an emphasis on composition and improvisation

AMK301 Grade 11 Keyboard-no pre-requisite
*challenge the beginner and experienced musician alike
*study keyboarding techniques, music theory and appreciation
*develop repertoire and an introduction to MIDI and sequencing
*composing, arranging and improvisation will be explored in a variety of musical styles

AMV3O1 Grade 11 Vocal/Choral (New Course OPEN)
* students will develop their voice and appreciation of music through the study of popular, jazz, and classical repertoire
* students will work individually as well as in ensembles-choral settings

AMG301 Grade 11 Guitar-no pre-requisite
*designed for interested students of all levels of experience
*develop technique and musical expression
*wide variety of musical styles will be explored
*student-initiated input on the selection of music
*students are required to have their own classical or acoustic guitar

AMG4M1 Grade 12 Guitar-pre-requisite AMG301
*continuation of the AMG301 course
*explore styles and techniques of classical, popular, jazz and blues music
*develop musicianship skills
*students are required to have their own classical or acoustic guitar
